This might jog a few memories.

My step father is the man on the left holding the regimental flag.

The first thing they teach you when joining up is not to question orders. How convenient for the Top Brass? And how catastrophic for the rest of us.

Just after Stuart met my mother he came to our house with a blue velvet covered presentation box and told me to look inside. I found a square and a compass. I had no idea of the significance, he then went on to give a lecture about how for thousands of years these were the tools that had been used to build the entire world. He put the box away and I never saw it again. Time went on and I had forgotten what he told me. I’ve been on a severely harsh learning curve ever since.
